The Best Picnic Ever

Dennis (rear) and his wife Kathy became Picnic volunteers in 2018.

Picnic 174 is coming, and in honor of its longstanding, rich history, we’re asking some of our most loyal Picnic attendees to tell us about their most cherished Picnic memory Dennis Withey, a St. Joe’s board member, shares a couple of his favorites.

Best Picnic moments: 2022 Picnic –  Being back to full “live” mode after the flex Picnics of the COVID years.  It was great to see the record crowds on Friday and Saturday enjoying themselves on two glorious Summer Picnic days.

2020’s Virtual Picnic –  St. Joe’s was able to creatively and effectively hold a successful Picnic experience during the COVID-shutdown year.  St. Joe’s Virtual Picnic owned the local media airwaves that day, as told by many drop-off donors.  One lady drove all the way from Bowling Green, Kentucky so that her two children could donate their savings banks of coins to St. Joe’s Kids at the drive-through drop-off on the Picnic grounds.  That was a truly remarkable memorable Picnic moment.

First place he goes: Kathy and I attended our first St. Joe’s Picnic in 2017.  While being part of the picnickers was a good experience, we wanted to be more engaged, and thus threw our names in as 2018 Picnic volunteers – Kathy as the Gazebo Ticket Booth Captain, and I as a ticket booth grunt.  So, our Picnics start by heading straight to the main ticket booths on the Picnic grounds to meet, greet, inform, and sell tickets to picnickers.  Many friends of St. Joe’s kids volunteer alongside us at the ticket booths for the Friday and Saturday Picnic festivities. We all have a blast all day and night long.

Don’t miss this weekend of mega fun: live music, food (chicken dinner is back), games, and raffles.

WHEN: August 11, 5-10 p.m. and August 12, 12 p.m. – midnight

WHERE: On the St. Joe’s lawn – come ready to have a good time and support our #sjkids.
