"I’ve always loved the picnic. I grew up going in the summers with my dad. I lived here in the summer, and it was usually the last weekend before heading home to Miami where my mom lived. It always felt like the last hurrah."
Picnic 174 is coming, and in honor of its longstanding, rich history, we’re asking some of our loyal Picnic attendees to tell us about their most cherished Picnic memory. Danielle Rudy Davis shares a few of her favorites.
Best Picnic moment: I love playing Bingo at the Picnic and winning the Coverall Bingo. The last round of the night, with a packed tent was by far my favorite Picnic moment. First place she goes: I like to go during the day with my kids so when we do that, we normally wander but we always hit the cake booth to make sure we get to take one home. When I come back in the evenings – without kids – it’s usually bingo or one of the gaming booths.
Why Picnic is special: It’s the best day of the summer. There is something for everyone to enjoy and while it continues to change, it remains that nostalgic moment that you can share with everyone in your family. I’ve always loved the picnic. I grew up going in the summers with my dad. I lived here in the summer, and it was usually the last weekend before heading home to Miami where my mom lived. It always felt like the last hurrah. Now I love going with my kids and friends. It’s truly my favorite Louisville event (other than the Kentucky Derby) and I think it’s such a good reflection of our community. My kids also attended day care at St. Joe’s so it’s a chance for us to see some of those familiar faces every year.
Don’t miss this weekend of mega fun: live music, food (CHICKEN DINNER IS BACK), games, and raffles. WHEN: August 11, 5-10 p.m. and August 12, 12 p.m. – midnight WHERE: On the St. Joe’s lawn – come ready to have a good time and support our #sjkids.
