Picnic 174 is coming, and in honor of its longstanding, rich history, we’re asking some of our Picnic attendees, volunteers, and sponsors to tell us about their most cherished Picnic memory. Sharon Hibbs, who helps run Showdown Poker, shares a few of her favorites. The St. Joe’s Picnic for the Kids is presented by the Arby’s Foundation.
Sharon started at the Showdown Poker booth in 1983. She now helps Tyler and Lydia Williams who run it. “The three of us do everything: deal, shuffle cards, pick up money off the boards, handle payouts and anything else that needs to be done.”
Best Picnic Moments: One year at Picnic, we had a downpour. They were telling everyone to go to the dining room, but we stayed where we were. The kids from St. Joe’s were out and started sliding in the grass and water. They were having so much fun and the looks on their faces were priceless.
Sharon and the other booth volunteers go out for breakfast immediately after Picnic ends on Saturday night.
Her favorite part of Picnic: My favorite thing is seeing all the friends I made there, especially those that come back to our booth just to see me. Other than leaving to go for a bathroom break, I don’t leave the booth. Well, sometimes I go get a banana ice cream cone, which is worth going for.
