If you love helping kids, this might be the right job for you.

Every child needs a protector – and Damon Clyburn commits himself to being someone our St. Joe’s kids can trust. As a youth care counselor, Damon supervises the kids who live on campus and provides emotional support to them when needed. “I help kids process whatever they are going through. It could be trauma or an incident with another kid or it could be something they are dealing with that happened in their past. We try to get them to tell us what is wrong. We ask them ‘how can we make you feel better and get through this.’”

Youth care counselors also teach kids how to use healthy coping techniques which can involve journaling, talking to a staff member, or a therapist. Damon says the employee training sessions and encouragement he receives from fellow staff, makes it easier for him to do his job well. But nothing matches the satisfaction he gets from working with the kids. “Someone has to do the job…it’s not easy but I really care about the kids, and I want to see them do better.” If you want to make a difference in the lives of our SJ kids, apply for one of our youth care counselor positions here: http://bit.ly/3HJ2D5s
