A Chat with Paige Cook

Paige Cook, LCSW, Lead Residential Therapist talks about the transformative effect St. Joseph Children’s Home has on the children we serve and the staff. She provides mental health therapy to the residential kids and clinical supervision to the newer therapists at St. Joe’s.

On why she chose St. Joe’s as her place to work

I began my career at SJCH immediately after graduating with my Bachelor’s in social work. I had many friends from school working at SJCH, and they encouraged me to apply because of how much they supported students. While in graduate school, I worked as part of the direct care staff. I was very inspired by the impact of therapy on the children we work with, and decided to apply for the therapist position, when it became available.

On what it takes to succeed in this type of job

You need to be patient and understanding. Our kiddos have been through a lot in their lives and react in many different ways. They need healthy adults to role-model caregiving and support.

On an unforgettable moment

Seeing children who thought they never had a chance at life or experiencing a normal childhood, be adopted, or work through hard issues with their biological families. I love to hear: “Mrs. Paige, I’m still in my home, and we’re doing much better now.”

P.S. Interested in joining the St. Joe’s family? Apply for one of these positions and help us make a difference in the lives of our SJ kids. https://bit.ly/3HJ2D5s
