A Chat with Julie Greenwell

Julie Greenwell, Chief Operating Officer, talks about how St. Joe’s is investing in the children we serve and the employees who work for us.

What made you choose this line of work?

I have always been interested in helping children and families find ways to support each other through challenging situations.

What are your primary responsibilities?

I am responsible for the administrative oversight of all of St. Joe’s therapeutic programs – Residential Treatment, Therapeutic Foster Care, and Behavioral Health Outpatient Services.  I am also responsible for the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) department that oversees agency quality and compliance standards. This includes ensuring that the services provided by St. Joe’s are trauma informed and within best-practice guidelines, that all programs have well qualified and trained staff, and that clients and families are achieving positive outcomes due to the services they have received at St. Joe’s.

Out of all the places you could have worked, why did you choose St. Joe’s?

St. Joe’s is committed to making sure that everyone is treated with respect and fairness and that all feel accepted and heard.  This applies to everyone regardless of whether the person interacts with St. Joe’s as a recipient of a service, an employee, a supporter, or a community member.

In what way do you help support the employees?

I make sure that employees are well-trained and have the support and resources they need to fulfill their job responsibilities.  Our main goal is to make sure that the kids are safe, healthy and receive the best services possible. This does not happen without dedicated employees with specialized skills and expertise.

How would you describe the work environment at St. Joe’s?

The work environment at St. Joe’s is supportive, collaborative, and mission-focused.

What would you consider to be the organization’s unique selling point as it pertains to employment?

St. Joe’s is an excellent place to work if you want to make a difference in the lives of children.  We have a unique honor to provide care for kids who are among the most vulnerable and we take that responsibility very seriously.  We have also worked hard to ensure that our compensation and benefit packages are excellent in order to reward our employees for the positive impact they make.

What do you love most about your job?

I love seeing the kids grow in all areas of their life – emotionally, physically, and educationally.  I also love to see them in a safe, healthy home environment being cared for by positive adults who recognize their worth.
