CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Play. Learn. Grow.

St. Joseph’s Child Development Center (CDC) is located in the newly renovated Landmark building of St. Joseph Children’s Home on Frankfort Avenue. The new space was created specifically with the needs of young children in mind. The center features warm, spacious classrooms that are meant to feel like home, a natural playground designed to feel like your own backyard, and special rooms dedicated to indoor movement. All of this allows children extra opportunities to move throughout the day! We look forward to sharing more with you. Please contact our CDC Director, April Manning for a tour or more information.

At St. Joe's Child Development Center:

  • We believe that all children are competent, capable, and full of wonder

  • We believe that our job as teachers and caregivers is to provide a safe environment

  • We encourage children to use their natural sense of wonder to explore, ask questions, and construct and expand their knowledge of the world around them

  • We believe that PLAY is the most powerful method in which children learn and gain meaning from their environment

  • We believe that children deserve to be treated with respect.

  • We believe in Positive Discipline based on love and instruction, not fear or punishment.

  • We believe in fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion to create a space where ALL children feel a sense of belonging

  • We provide emergent curriculum with Reggio Emilia-inspired approach
  • *We have an on-site chef who can accommodate special dietary needs or requests.

*St. Joe’s is proud to offer an elevated menu for kids including fresh ingredients, fruits, vegetables, and a healthy, balanced variety not found in most classrooms. Chef Finbar Kinsella and staff are committed to providing creative, healthy meals for all children and can meet a variety of dietary needs.

“When I think of our experience at St. Joes, two words come to mind: love and happiness. I drop my son off knowing that he is in the best place he could possibly be. It’s not home, but it feels that way to him. Chef Finbar is an added bonus; the food at St. Joe's is so much better than anything I could ever cook myself!”

Programs

St. Joe’s Child Development Center (CDC) is a Kentucky ALL STARS recognized center with a 3 STAR rating. Teachers create weekly lesson plans based on Early Childhood Standards and the children’s individual interests and needs. These lesson plans guide the learning in the classroom, providing a framework around which the teachers can organize the learning environment and activities. St. Joe’s CDC Director has 13 years of experience teaching Kindergarten in Kentucky’s public schools and is committed to Kindergarten readiness. This is evident in St. Joe’s focus on pre-literacy and pre-math skills in the pre-K classroom as well as extra evening parent workshops offered throughout the year on Kindergarten-readiness topics.
