The Best Picnic Ever

Patrice Flynn (right) says it isn’t uncommon to see the same people return as Picnic volunteers every year. “It really shows how much St. Joe’s means to the community.”

Picnic 174 is coming, and in honor of its longstanding, rich history, we’re asking some of our Picnic attendees, volunteers, and sponsors to tell us about their most cherished Picnic memory. Patrice Flynn and her son Zach reflect on some of their best memories. The St. Joe’s Picnic for the Kids is presented by the Arby’s Foundation.

Best Picnic moment –

Patrice says: My favorite moments are both as a teenager and an adult. As a teenager I remember going to St Joe’s in high school and always loved going to the booths and trying to win something. I went every year.  As an adult I began volunteering around 1984.  My mom began quilting around then and I began co-chairing a quilt booth a few years after that. Prior to that I would volunteer in one of the booths. My son has been at every picnic since he was born except Covid year as we always brought him along. It didn’t stop us, we just continued  on and had a ball. He and his wife now run the quilt wheel booth for St. Joe’s.  We always arrive early to set up the booths for the Sewing Room. We enjoy working and promoting the sales to the community that come to the Picnic.

Zach and his wife Amelia co-chair the Quilts on Wheels booth.

Zach says: I cannot think of one specific moment or story that sticks out in my mind. As soon as the date for the Picnic comes out each year, it goes on the calendar and no matter what is going on, we cannot miss the Picnic. It’s non negotiable. I am most excited that this year, we will get to continue the tradition and bring my son to his first Picnic. He will be 4 months old at Picnic.

What makes Picnic special –

Patrice says: The picnic is always special to us, because my family has been involved for generations.  St Joe’s has a special place in our hearts and we continue to support St. Joe’s to this day and through our next generations.  Plus it is always great fun seeing folks that you’ve known for decades but haven’t seen in years.

Don’t miss this weekend of mega fun: live music, food (chicken dinner is back), games, and raffles.

WHEN: August 11, 5-10 p.m. and August 12, 12 p.m. – midnight

WHERE: On the St. Joe’s lawn – come ready to have a good time and support our #sjkids.

Thanks to Arby’s Foundation for being the presenting sponsor for Picnic 174!
