“She got her first job at a child development center where she is an assistant in the 1 and 2-year-old rooms."

Debra Glover, a SJ parent we previously featured in November 2023, is starting a new chapter with her foster daughter, *Jessica who has lived with her since June 2022. After two years, she has begun the adoption process and both are excited about their new life together. This year, they spent some quality time with Debra’s parents in Alabama where Jessica received a special gift from Debra’s father. “My Dad played in a Bluegrass band and she plays the guitar at School of Rock, so he gave her his mandolin.”  Now a sophomore in high school, Jessica is making plans for the future. She has an interest in marine biology and is considering attending college at Northern Kentucky University. “She got her first job at a child development center where she is an assistant in the 1 and 2-year-old rooms. She is also saving money to buy a new car.”

Debra says the therapy offered at St. Joe’s has been instrumental in Jessica’s progress. “Alex, her therapist, is able to see the kids for who they are and let them know that they are OK. She is great at bringing me in when I am needed or when Jessica requests to have a family session. She is great at facilitating our conversation so that Jessica feels like she is heard.” Debra adds, “I love Jessica so much. I told her that I am really proud of the person she is becoming, and I am honored to experience that in some small way.”   This is what can happen when you take the first step as a foster parent.
