Behavioral Health Services for the Louisville Community

Keeping families together starts with making mental health a priority. In 2020, St. Joe’s became a licensed Behavioral Health Services Organization which allows us to provide therapeutic services to kids and families within the community. Offering therapy services to the community gives families and children support to find healthy, safe and nurturing ways to communicate and interact with one another.

Our therapists are certified in trauma informed, evidence-based practices including Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Nurturing Parenting Program and other approaches.

“Jessica’s therapist is able to see the kids for who they are and let them know that they are OK. She is great at bringing me in when I am needed or when Jessica requests to have a family session. She is great at facilitating our conversation so that Jessica feels like she is heard.”

“The therapy has helped us to understand as parents where their needs are coming from and how to help. It helped our son with coping skills and gave him a safe place to talk about his concerns.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

Complete the referral form. After you’ve submitted your information, we will contact you to complete the intake paperwork and schedule your first appointment.

What will occur during my first appointment?

During your first session, the therapist will ask certain questions about you and your life. This information helps your therapist make an initial assessment of your situation. These questions include things like why you sought therapy and what you are hoping to achieve. You will also be asked about your personal history and other issues affecting your current life circumstances. For children we typically only meet with parents during the first session unless your child is comfortable speaking about the presenting problem.

How long will my appointment take?

Sessions are approximately 50-55 minutes in length.

How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

If you need to make a change to your appointment, please contact your therapist by phone or email directly. You may also email bhsoinfo@sjkids.org. Our office policy is that all cancellations and reschedules must be 24 hours before the scheduled appointment to avoid an attendance appointment. Lateness of 15 minutes or more will be considered a ‘missed appointment’ or ‘no show’.

I am divorced and would like to bring my child to therapy. My ex-spouse and I have joint custody, do you need their permission?

We require both parents to sign the consent paperwork forms for the children and adolescents we see. Both parents do not have to be present for sessions and all paperwork can be completed online.
