If you've never attended our St. Joe's for the Kids annual Picnic, here's your chance to experience a fun summer outing with your family and friends while supporting children in need. We talk to a few of our loyal attendees about their most cherished Picnic memories.
Picnic 174 is coming, and in honor of its longstanding, rich history, we’re asking some of our loyal Picnic attendees to tell us about their most cherished Picnic memory. Kathy Ott, Executive Administrative Assistant/IT at St. Joe’s, shares her story.
Best picnic moment: Working the information booth with my family – especially my daughters and hearing past residents tell me their very interesting stories about living at St. Joe’s when they were children.
Favorite part of Picnic: My favorite thing is a favorite time and more precisely, my two favorite times. The first being around 6:45 a.m. on the Friday Picnic begins. I’m driving east on Frankfort Avenue, and I round the curve at the Latin School and it hits me: all the lights are on, all the booths are ready and it’s the most beautiful sight. The sun is coming up and its light hits the tree tops, and I realize this is the most peaceful this place will be for the next two days. My second favorite time is around midnight on Saturday when I’m driving the last group of the Picnic visitors back to their car. I’ve dropped them off and I’m coming down the back driveway from Brownsboro and the cool night breeze is blowing all over me and the moon is shining bright and I’m so thankful to have been a part of this wonderful event.
A Kathy Ott fun fact: When I was hired 12 years ago, I knew nothing of the Picnic … at the time I was a member of the sign committee, and I designed the green signs you see above the fronts of the Booths that include the information about the groups sponsoring and running the booth. Don’t miss this weekend of mega fun: live music, food (chicken dinner is back), games, and raffles. WHEN: August 11, 5-10 p.m. and August 12, 12 p.m. – midnight WHERE: On the St. Joe’s lawn – come ready to have a good time and support our #sjkids.
